Another year has come and gone. 2012 was a grueling year- in many positive ways as well as not-so-positive ways. I made the very hard decision to leave behind a job with a company I treasured for more than five years and start fresh somewhere new. John graduated law school, soldiered through two months of solid studying and came out victorious with Bar passage and a great job. I held two leadership positions and had amazing experiences in both roles. Craigslist was stalked. Spray painting was perfected. I acquired way too many ceramic animal figurines.
I love the start of a new year- it holds so much promise and new opportunities to push ourselves in new and creative ways. I LOVE making resolutions—keeping them is another thing. Because I’m a weirdo, I’m a) putting them up here for you to read and b) I’ve categorized them. I hope that by putting these out there in the universe, I’ll be inspired to not only follow these resolutions but try and do even more to make 2013 the best year yet.
In 2013 I will:
Pursue an active, healthy lifestyle with equal emphasis on healthy eating, exercise and mental/physical rest and repair
- Regular, intense workouts
- Equal attention to yoga and other restorative exercises
- Participate in at least one physical fitness competition (mud run, 5k, half marathon, etc.)
- Spend more time in the kitchen cooking healthy meals
Cultivate happiness for myself by creating happiness for others
- Find new ways to give back to my community members in need
- Set aside time each week to spend intentional, quality time (either in person or over the phone) with a friend, family member and my husband
- Perform at least one act of kindness to a stranger per month (this can include random compliments, buying someone a cup of coffee, etc.)
Let go and stop comparing myself to others
- Be in the “moment”
- Shake off things that bother me- rather than let them torment me
- Stop comparing myself to others!
Set financial goals- and meet them
- Pay off credit card bill
- Gain expert advice and create a savings plan to purchase a home in 2013
- Invest in artwork-original and prints
- Create a beautiful entryway vignette
- Try something bold in at least one room!
- Create and find roles that challenge and highlight my abilities as a leader in order to advance my career to Associate Director in 2-3 years and assume the role as President of a different board by 2014
