It’s always exciting and stressful when it’s time to replenish your make-up supplies. On one hand, you get excited because it means new products to try and more of your time-tested favorites. On the other hand, you get mildly panicked at what these small, very small goodies are going to cost you when you get to the check-out line at Sephora. I had a little bit of both on Sunday, but I’m thrilled with my purchases (some old faves, some new discoveries.) Let’s review, shall we?
YSL Touche Eclat: This is a product that I was turned on to during my wedding season last year. When my wedding make-up artist put it on, I could tell an immediate difference-goodbye dark circles. When she told me the tiny gold tube would set me back $40, I had to scrape my jaw off the floor. I mean, you’ve seen what I’ve purchased on Craigslist for $40- we’re talking furniture. However, when she then told me that Kate Middleton used the product on her wedding day, I bought two tubes. I’ve tried the Bobbi Brown stuff, but frankly it’s a little too heavy and creases within 10 minutes of putting it on. I like the lightweight YSL coverage. Good investment.
Boscia Beauty Balm: Two words- Game. Changer. I’d read about beauty balms in some magazines, but didn’t really get what they were all about. Are they a moisturizer? A foundation? What? Turns out they are a little bit of everything. After reading Julie’s review, I knew I had to try it. Umm, I’m obsessed. Very generous sized-tube that matches your skin color, SPF 27, minimizes pores and provides even coverage. Need I say more? Tip- use your fingers for blending, do not use a sponge. It will look a little gray for about a minute, but then hello dewy glow, goodbye dead matte skin. Get your paws on this product ASAP.
Laura Mercier eye shadow in Cafe Au Lait: I’m a HUGE Laura fan and swear by her tight-liner and eyeshadows. They are so creamy and last for a very long time even with everyday use. I typically use shimmery eye shadows, but I don’t feel like a) they are very professional in a corporate environment and b) run down my face by lunchtime. I like this soft, natural brown-I think it’s so much prettier on than in the box. If you are a brunette or red-head, I highly recommend this shadow color for something romantic and classic for an office or cocktail party setting!
FACE STOCKHOLM lipstick in French Martini: By now all of you should be very familiar with my addition related to lip gloss, lip stick and lip stains. Seriously, if they had a hoarders-lip products TV show (and let’s face it, that’s probably in the hopper for some point soon), I would be the first crazy person on there. I was just minding my own business in the JCREW check-out line when this pretty little tube caught my eye. I grimaced when I saw the $20 price tag for the tiny tube, but after testing this company’s nail polishes, I knew they were quality. And I am NOT disappointed! This goes on buttery smooth and it’s the perfect creamy bright pink-like a creamsicle with a touch of neon. Love!
