Excellent: Boutique Minimaliste

I recently stumbled upon a great Etsy shop called Boutique Minimaliste with fabulous jewelry and even better prices. Here are some of my faves:

Lion bracelet- fierce

Dainty skull necklace

Scarab beetle ring- would be a fab addition to a cocktail dress this summer, don’t you think?

Cheetah triangle necklace

What’s the haps

Hope everyone had a great weekend! After battling a never-ending cold, I enjoyed a fun few days spent decorating the house, attending a fun black tie event and helping host a birthday dinner for my father-in-law.

In keeping with one of my 2013 New Year’s resolutions, I updated our entryway with a demilune table I snagged off of Craigslist and mixed in some items I already had at home, including a fun brass bowl, Elroy the solar-powered corgi, an orchid from Trader Joe’s and a ginger jar from an estate sale.

Did the long bob at my haircut on Friday. So far, I haven’t been able to master the blow-out as you see here, but I’m working on it.

Went to the Furbish re-opening on Saturday and it was nothing short of phenomenal. I’m loving their Peter Dunham/California with a Southern twist going on. (Totally invented those descriptors- I’m sure they have a much more refined aesthetic than that but it’s all I got.)

We got all gussied up for a black tie event to benefit a friend’s new non-profit, Vs. Cancer at the NC Science Museum. I did Rent the Runway and chose an Erin Featherston sparkly number-comfortable and pretty!

We hosted my husband’s parents and sister for dinner last night for my father-in-law’s birthday. The plates are a recent flea market find, the brass napkin rings a thrifting find and I’m loving the curly tulips from Kroger at just $5/bouquet.

How was your weekend?

Most excellent: Emerson Fry

If I were to personify the Emerson Fry spring collection, she would be the beautiful girl rocking zero make-up, skinny long legs clad in perfectly cropped blue jeans, her dad’s Lacoste polo from 1988, and suede driving mocs. So basically all of my hopes and dreams of effortless chic.

Lucky for you and me, you can shop Emerson Fry to achieve a similar look that easily transcends from day to night. The spring collection recently launched and it is full of goodies, including:

A-Line top (this is going in my closet immediately)

Cheetah tab skirt

Suede slingbacks

Leather cuff

Sunnies

Here’s hoping we can all strive for similar, effortlessly chic looks this spring.

Craigslist Finds of the Week

Hello everyone! Here is the latest installment of Craigslist finds of the week in Raleigh-Durham. If you are looking for something in particular, please email me at excellenceasahabit@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to help you track it down via Craigslist in your city. Click photos for the Craigslist page.

Two blanc de chine lamps- a lamp repair kit is only $10 from Home Depot- easy, cheap fix for these classic Hollywood Regency pieces.

Pagoda-top entertainment unit. Paint this a fun color and it would be a great addition to your den or family room.

Bamboo room divider- great for those of you in small spaces who need to hide ugly storage areas!

Pair of beautiful brass lamps for just $60. Extra points for the great finials!

Super retro light fixture. I think with some fresh paint, this would be such a fun addition over a cozy breakfast nook or sunroom.

Faux bamboo mirror in great condition for just $85.

Currently crushing: The long bob

Did anyone else’s jaw drop when they saw Giuliana Rancic’s new hair style on the Oscars Red Carpet on Sunday? I grew out my hair for my wedding- two years ago…And I’m craving a change. A small change. I have a hair appointment on Friday and I’m strongly considering trying out this long bob look. I’m especially convinced after some Googling/Pinteresting revealed that some of my other favorite ladies, Olivia Palermo and Gwyneth Paltrow, have also rocked the long bob look. I’m a wee concerned that there is definitely some product and curling irons needed to achieve this look…the use of both of which I have zero skill. What do you think of the look?

Most excellent: Hermes orange

Hermes orange is not your typical citrus hue. It is demure yet unmistakeable. Rich, but not over the top. A neutral, but a stand out in its own right. For these reasons and so much more, I think the use of Hermes orange in home decor and styling is most excellent. Let’s enjoy, shall we?

What say you? Do you find Hermes orange as excellent as I do?

Evolution of Mom Dancing (with Jimmy Fallon and Michelle Obama)

In honor of the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign, Jimmy Fallon and Michelle Obama present the “Evolution of Mom Dancing.”

“Mom snaps”- nailed it. Been to many a wedding reception where Francie Heckner busted that move out.

Style Do or Don’t? Camo jeans

The other day, the adorable blogger Liz from Sequins and Stripes posted this picture:

I am DIGGING this look big time. The jeans are from Gap and I’m seriously considering adding them to my wardrobe. Paired with some sassy heels, they make a great date night outfit. What are your thoughts? Yay or nay on the camo?
