Happy Friday everyone. You may have noticed this little blog hasn’t been getting a lot of my attention lately—between work, my various board involvement and just trying to stay connected with friends, I’ve had about zero time to devote to this space. On top of that, I’ve been interviewing for a position at my company that I knew was a stretch but thought I’d try for anyway. I made it farther in the interview process than even I thought I would go…which probably made it sting a bit more when I found out late yesterday I didn’t get the job. But you know what? It was worth it. One, because now more people know I’m capable and eager to get to that next level in my current job (and quickly) and two because I had a chance to learn how to handle rejection with grace. And for a stubborn asshole like me, that’s really, really, REALLY hard.
My one takeaway from all this? When an opportunity comes up—even one you think/know in the back of your mind is a stretch—do it. You won’t regret it. You’ll learn a lot about yourself and the people you work with in the process. And hell, you may even get the job.
